Discipleship

The foundation of our work and the heartbeat of our mission

The people of Zambia and Malawi are deeply open to the Gospel—many readily respond to the message of salvation, but lasting faith requires growth. That’s where our discipleship process begins.

Using the Emmaus Bible Study courses, we equip these believers to build a firm spiritual foundation and then teach them to help others do the same. Each student is paired with a mentor who walks beside them through the 12-course Emmaus curriculum. This one-on-one training focuses on Scripture study, personal growth, and application of God’s truth in daily life.

As students progress they:

  • … are challenged to fully surrender their lives to Christ.
  • learn biblical principles for service, family, stewardship, and evangelism.
  • … gain confidence to share their faith with others.
  • … graduate equipped to lead new believers through the same process.

After completing the 12-course program, students move into what we call “Course 13”—a JRM-developed training which is designed to prepare them as mentors and leaders themselves. Through this approach, disciples become disciplers, multiplying the ministry from village to village and church to church.

The Emmaus Bible Center method has proven effective around the world because it empowers nationals to lead their own people. With every course distributed, a new chain of discipleship begins.

Bibles

The Word of God is central to spiritual growth. Without Scripture, discipleship cannot flourish.

In many parts of Zambia and Malawi, believers do not own a Bible—and entire families share one copy when available. To meet this need, Jericho Road Ministries provides both printed and solar-powered audio Bibles in multiple local languages, ensuring that God’s Word can be read, heard, and shared.

Recent Impact (2024–2025):

  • 530 Bibles distributed in English, Lozi, Bemba, Tonga, and Chichewa
  • 8,896 Emmaus courses distributed to churches and study groups
  • The largest single quarter of course distribution in ministry history—2,748 courses in three months

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ.”

Every Bible given is a seed of faith planted in the heart of a believer–

—and that faith grows into fruit that reaches entire communities.

Buildings

As new disciples mature and communities grow, the need for places of worship naturally follows.

Jericho Road Ministries partners with local churches to help them build their own houses of worship—but with a purpose: ownership, not dependency.

We believe in empowering local believers to take the lead in their own church construction projects. Our role is to come alongside them through leadership training, prayer, and, as God provides, financial support to help complete what they’ve begun. This method fosters both community unity and long-term sustainability.

When local believers contribute their labor and resources, they take pride in what God is doing among them.

Each new church is a visible reminder that discipleship leads to multiplication—and that the Gospel is taking root in new places across Africa.

Looking Ahead

Our vision is to see every region of Zambia and Malawi equipped with trained leaders, thriving churches, and accessible discipleship resources. By focusing on personal growth, biblical training, and local empowerment, Jericho Road Ministries continues to build a strong foundation for the Church in South Central Africa.
